Amanda P. Goodwin is an Assistant Professor in Language, Literacy, and Culture at Vanderbilt University's Peabody College. She is a certified educator who has taught in public and private schools at the elementary, middle, and collegiate level. Amanda became interested in morphological awareness because of the dichotomy between the morpho-phonemic nature of the English writing system and the relative lack of information regarding its role in literacy achievement as compared to phonological awareness. Her main research interests are the role of morphological awareness in contributing to the process of reading especially for English language learners, effects of morphological instruction in improving literacy outcomes for various types of learners, and use of novel statistical methods that can most accurately address such questions. Over the past three years, Amanda has submitted five first author journal articles and has an edited book in press with colleagues. She has also presented two papers and eight posters and acted as a discussant at various National conferences. Her work aims to improve understanding of how morphological awareness impacts reading achievement and ultimately lead to better design of morphological interventions and improved student literacy.
