London offers almost unlimited opportunities to experience everything that a world-class city has to offer. In addition to being a center of international finance, fashion, and industry, London is cultural hub for England and Europe. The city will welcome the world as it hosts the 2012 Olympics. Students can take advantage of all the history, culture and entertainment this great international city has to offer.
If you want to see the masterpieces of European art, there are more than a dozen art museums in London. If you want to see live theatre, the West End is filled with theatres large and small, and beyond the West End, there is the Globe Theatre, rebuilt to the way it would have looked in Shakespeare's time. For those interested in athletics, London is home to ten teams in England's Premier League, as well as the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, home of Wimbledon. London has a large city park system, including Hyde and Regent's Park in the city and the vast Richmond Park on the outskirts of town.
London's extensive public transportation system makes it easy to see everything from Notting Hill to the National Portrait Gallery to the Freud Museum.
During the London internship students attend a weekly Vanderbilt seminar class in London.
From HOD Students:
"Interning abroad in London gave confidence in me, my skill set, and in the value of my major. I returned to the United States as a more well-rounded and culturally-aware Vanderbilt student, American citizen, and future employee."
Katie Zupancic, Neville McCarthy
"My internship provided me the opportunity to combine my academic interests with my passion for international mission work."
Nicholas Gaxiola, London City Mission
"Interning at London taught me more than all of my other classes at Vanderbilt combined. Everything from arranging for my visa and housing, to finding my way around a foreign country, to the actual internship itself pushed me discover more about myself and my capabilities than I ever thought possible."
