Deborah Tobey’s background is in the practice of organization design, organization development, psychology, and adult learning theory as witnessed in the private sector, public sector, government, and education settings. Prior to her full-time appointment at Vanderbilt, she served as an adjunct professor at George Washington University, Belmont University, Middle Tennessee State University, and Vanderbilt.
Her areas of concentration include: Consulting skills development, centering on the consultant’s purposeful and informed alignment of consultant deliverables with client utilization ability; Assessments and interventions that focus on the phenomenon of organization and individual readiness; Methods of influencing employee behavior choices that support performance; Design of models, processes, tools, and assessments that effectively analyze and represent intellectual and interpersonal processes and development; Implementation of aligned organization development systems – needs assessment, design, intervention facilitation, and evaluation of organizational development interventions, including learning, group process consulting, leadership development and change management.
