Lanette Waddell has been in public education for over 20 years, working as a college professor, mathematics coach, elementary teacher, middle school math teacher, mathematics consultant, and a professional development workshop presenter. She holds certifications in Elementary Education in PA and NJ, Mathematics teacher grades 7 - 12 in NJ, and Principal K- 12 in PA and NJ. She was a 2000 New Jersey state finalist for the Presidential Award for the Excellence for Math and Science Teaching as well as a 2000 Master Teacher for Channel 13's National Teacher Training Institute in New York. She was also a 1989 recipient of the New Jersey Alternate Route Minority Scholarship award.
Waddell's research interests revolve around the implementation of professional development models for K-8 in-service teachers in reform mathematics. Specifically, how school based professional development, such as coaching models, lesson study, and action research, can support the increase of reflection and change in reform mathematics teaching practices. Additionally, Waddell is studying how technology, particularly interactive whiteboards and virtual tools, can support growth in mathematics teaching practices. Finally, she is also interested in looking into culturally relevant pedagogical practices and the effects these practices have on students of color.
